Challenges

Post-Upgrade Instability – Device logs generated excessive errors after the OS/firmware update, complicating troubleshooting.

Limited Initial Access – Early troubleshooting had to be performed remotely via console, with incomplete logging information.

Power Redundancy Concerns – The client’s racks lacked a structured survey of redundancy and demarcation points, increasing risk of outages.

Our Approach

Phase 1 – SD-WAN Troubleshooting

Assisted the client via console access, analyzing raised logs and requesting new logs for better visibility.

Conducted a configuration review to identify potential misalignments post-upgrade.

Recommended and executed a hard power cycle of the Juniper SD-WAN device, which ultimately resolved the operational issue.

Phase 2 – Power Redundancy Survey

Applied a reverse engineering methodology by first documenting a detailed rack elevation layout for each rack.

Conducted a device-level power redundancy assessment, recording how each device was connected to power sources.

Identified main power demarcation points, mapping dependencies and potential single points of failure.

Compiled the findings into a comprehensive technical report including:

Rack elevation diagrams

Power redundancy status per device

Recommendations for future resilience improvements
